We are pleased to introduce
visiting artist Jayne Williams!
Jayne Williams writes things. Some of the things pay
the rent; some are set to music. She began to study the
mandolin in 2013, after realizing that the world did not
need another mediocre guitar player, and has now
learned just enough to be dangerous. As one of the rare
Russian majors who found a job in her field, she traveled
extensively in Russia during the late Soviet period,
interpreting for whitewater rafting expeditions in Siberia
and managing to avoid drowning herself or others. Since
those times, there have been many years of soul-
parching office jobs and consulting gigs (see “writing
things,” above). In May 2019, Jayne will be performing at
the Merthyr Rising festival in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, with
her band, The Exiles. Her songs dig into the angst, fun,
and ambiguity of being a middle-aged human in a
complicated world. Jayne lives in San Francisco.
